Doubling the Near?Infrared Photocurrent in a Solar Cell via Omni?Resonant Coherent Perfect Absorption

چکیده
Minimizing the material usage in thin-film solar cells can reduce manufacturing costs and enable mechanically flexible implementations, but concomitantly diminishes optical absorption. Coherent effects help alleviate this inevitable drawback at discrete frequencies. For example, coherent perfect absorption guarantees that light is fully absorbed a thin layer regardless of or thickness—but only on resonance. Here, it shown “omni-resonance” delivers such enhancement over broad bandwidth by structuring field to nullify angular dispersion intrinsic resonant structures. After embedding an amorphous-silicon photovoltaic cell planar cavity, pre-conditioning incident using alignment-free arrangement severs link between cavity-photon lifetime, thereby rendering cavity omni-resonant. Coherently enhanced near-infrared doubles photocurrent targeted spectral range 660–740 nm where every wavelength resonates. These results may pave way transparent optimally harvest light.

Octave-spanning coherent perfect absorption in a thin silicon film.
Although optical absorption is an intrinsic materials property, it can be manipulated through structural modification. Coherent perfect absorption increases absorption to 100% interferometrically but is typically realized only over narrow bandwidths using two laser beams with fixed phase relationship. We show that engineering a thin film's photonic environment severs the link between the effect...
متن کاملControllable coherent perfect absorption in a composite film.
We exploit the versatility provided by metal-dielectric composites to demonstrate controllable coherent perfect absorption (CPA) or anti-lasing in a slab of heterogeneous medium. The slab is illuminated by coherent light from both sides, at the same angle of incidence and the conditions required for CPA are investigated as a function of the different system parameters. Our calculations clearly ...

متن کاملCoherent perfect absorption in one-sided reflectionless media
In optical experiments one-sided reflectionless (ORL) and coherent perfect absorption (CPA) are unusual scattering properties yet fascinating for their fundamental aspects and for their practical interest. Although these two concepts have so far remained separated from each other, we prove that the two phenomena are indeed strictly connected. We show that a CPA-ORL connection exists between pai...
متن کاملGate-tunable coherent perfect absorption of terahertz radiation in graphene
Perfect absorption of radiation in a graphene sheet may play a pivotal role in the realization of technologically relevant optoelectronic devices. In particular, perfect absorption of radiation in the terahertz (THz) spectral range would tremendously boost the utility of graphene in this difficult range of photon energies, which still lacks cheap and robust devices operating at room temperature...
